Welfare Benefits & Young People

The benefit system can often be a confusing maze for young people and the professionals who work with them. Understanding the system and how it works ensures that your young people are receiving all the benefits they are entitled to and lessens the risk of them falling through the support net.

Course Aims & Objectives

This course allows you to gain a solid knowledge of benefits and the eligibility criteria for young people. There are often completely different rules for young people under 18, this course allows you to learn these eligibility rules. The course also covers how to make effective claims for Income Support and Income – based Job Seekers Allowance and severe hardship payments.

We will also learn about accessing other important sources of financial assistance for young people, including the Social Fund, Housing Benefit and it’s restrictions relating to young people and the, often under applied for, Discretionary Housing Payments.

Overall, this course is an invaluable resource for everyone who works with young people.
